Hire a bike from Ride With Us in Camperdown, Victoria and ride to the Camperdown Botanical Gardens, where you will be able to take in the stunning views over Lake Gnotuk and Lake Bullen Merri. From there ride along the Camperdown to Timboon Rail Trail, entering the trail at Naroghid or stay in Camperdown and do a historical bicycle tour of Camperdown, learning about the pioneer past and indigenous history of the area.

RIDE TO LAKE PURRUMBETE

Ride from Camperdown to Lake Purrumbete which will take you approximately 1 hour each way if you are cruising and not in a rush. Once you arrive at Lake Purrumbete, call into Lake Edge Cafe for lunch or a coffee break, or enjoy a picnic whilst enjoying the beautiful views, before heading back to Camperdown. Be sure to check the Lake Edge Cafe website for opening days and hours.

HISTORICIAL BICYCLE TOUR

Hire a bike and visit the Camperdown Heritage Centre, explore the Camperdown Heritage trail and visit historic buildings and sites, see the crater lakes and hear about the indigenous heritage of the area. Your guide will meet you at each location and provide you with the history and rich stories from the region.

RIDE TO CAMPERDOWN BOTANICAL GARDENS

From from Camperdown town centre to the Camperdown Botanical Gardens, where you will be able to take in the stunning views over Lake Gnotuk and Lake Bullen Merri. Wander through the small but beautiful gardens at the top of the hill before riding back into Camperdown.

CAMPERDOWN TO TIMBOON RAIL TRAIL

The Camperdown to Timboon Rail Trail which runs through Naroghid, Cobden, Glenfyne and Curdies through to Timboon. The trail now takes you all the way to the coast at Port Campbell. Ride past relics of old railway trestle bridges, through bush and dairy farmland with rolling hills. A peaceful ride, you're likely to see dairy cows, hear the sounds of birds and you may see some wildlife.

RIDE TO COBDEN

Ride along the Camperdown to Timboon Rail Trail to Cobden and see where Western Star Butter is made, learn about the pioneer history at the historic Pioneer Dairy Park and Cobden Historical Society then go for a ride on a miniature train and have a game of mini golf before riding back to Camperdown. Feeling peckish? Stop in for a meal at Bistro On Neylon, Thommo's Hotel or ride into the Cobden main street for a hot pie or salad roll. Bistro On Neylon is located at Cobden Golf Club which is located in the middle of the Rail Trail. You will arrive at a golf course. Once you enter the trail at the golf course, look to your left and you will see the club house which is where Bistro on Neylon is located. Check their Facebook page for availability to avoid disappointment.

RAIL TRAIL CONDITIONS

SEPTEMBER 2025 UPDATE: Due to recent rain and wind, there may be some sections of the trail which may be muddy or you may come across fallen trees or branches. Volunteers run the Rail Trail, and they do their best to clean up the trail as quickly as possible. If you notice trees across the trail or anything that needs maintenance, please let us know or reach out to the Rail Trail Committee directly here.

The rail trail is managed and maintained by a small group of volunteers and this donation assists with the upkeep of the rail trail.
